On the chess board, the object is to get to the King. It was the chief priests who wanted to kill the King of Kings. They rooked Pilate and Herod, who didn't need much prompting after they used Judas as their pawn to turn Jesus over to their so called authorities. And they did it all at night.

They were all players, and all made their moves.

Jesus died on the cross for our salvation.
